What Is Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening is the process of removing stains or discoloration from natural tooth enamel. It is convenient, fast, and completely non-invasive, making it a popular choice for patients looking to revive their smile. Because we use a prescription-strength whitening gel, our treatments are much more effective than over-the-counter products like strips and mouthwashes. Professional teeth whitening is not permanent, but it can provide dramatic results in just two weeks as opposed to the 30-day time commitment associated with most store-bought products.
The Teeth Whitening Process
Our dental practice offers two types of professional teeth whitening that you can take home with you. Your dentist can help you choose the best option for your needs.
- Opalescence: This type of whitening treatment uses a high-concentration peroxide gel to remove deep-set stains from your tooth enamel. You will receive a set of custom trays that you’ll wear for anywhere from 7-10 days, depending on the advice of your dentist and your desired results. You can wear your trays during the day or overnight, whichever you prefer.
- KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching: This advanced whitening process can lighten your teeth by up to 16 shades or more with a single treatment. Every patient’s teeth are different, but everyone will observe a noticeable improvement. Before you receive the treatment, you’ll attend a brief consultation with your dentist to choose the proper level of whitening. You’ll wear your KöR trays for two weeks while you sleep. You can also opt to undergo one or two in-office treatments to supplement your at-home regimen.
What to Expect at Your Teeth Whitening Appointment
If you wish to take advantage of our teeth whitening treatments, you’ll schedule a consultation with one of our dentists to evaluate your smile and take stock of your goals or desired results. If your teeth have any decay or tartar on them, that situation may need to be rectified before you proceed with whitening. Once your teeth are ready to receive the treatment, you can choose one of our two portable options to brighten your smile in the comfort of your own home. Depending on the treatment you select, you may be able to complement your whitening routine with some in-office visits.
